Opening This Week - June 30, 2017

Wide Releases:

Baby Driver (June 28)

Directed by: Edgar Wright
Runtime: 1hr, 53mins
Action, Crime
R
Trailer

Starring: Ansel Elgort, Kevin Spacey, Lily James, Jamie Foxx, Jon Bernthal, Jon Hamm

Aside from the trailer, which looks great, this film is likely to do pretty well considering all the positive word of mouth and good reviews it's received so far. The anticipation for this one has been pretty high all year, but it's likely to be one of the biggest hits of the summer. The cast is great, the soundtrack looks great, and Edgar Wright is among the best directors working today. This one can't miss.

__________

Despicable Me 3

Directed by: Kyle Balda, Pierre Coffin
Runtime: 1hr, 30mins
Animation, Action, Adventure, Comedy
PG
Trailer

Starring: Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig, Trey Parker, Miranda Cosgrove, Steve Coogan, Julie Andrews, Jenny Slate

They've already made a movie to cash in on the lovable minions so why not make a third Despicable Me film? This is a cash cow that keeps on generating profits. At least Steve Carell is back to provide his charm to the franchise. In fact he's playing two characters this time around.

The House

Directed by: Andrew Jay Cohen
Runtime: 1hr, 28mins
Comedy
Rating
Trailer

Starring: Will Ferrell, Amy Poehler, Jeremy Renner, Nick Kroll, Jason Mantzoukas

I don't always like Will Ferrell or Amy Poehler, but they can't be good and when they are, they're hilarious. This time they're together. However, maybe it's my love of the podcast "How Did This Get Made?" that makes me almost more excited to see Jason Mantzoukas.
