Opening This Week - November 23 - 25

November 23

Directed by: Robert Zemeckis
Runtime: 2hrs, 4mins
Action, Drama, Romance

Robert Zemeckis continues to be an underrated director. He's made a lot of films, many of which are highly entertaining popcorn flicks. Yet he is still often overlooked when talking about great directors. I'm not saying he isn't prone to making the occasional flop, but I'm willing to say he's good more often than not. Allied looks like a more serious, WWII version of Mr. and Mrs. Smith. There has been a lot of buzz around the film, though most of it due to rumors of a relationship brewing between Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard behind the scenes. The rumors only intensified due to Brad's recent split from Angelina Jolie. Whether that positively or negatively affects the film's performance remains to be seen. It has received some mixed reviews so far - though more positive than negative for what its worth.

Bad Santa 2

Directed by: Mark Waters
Runtime: 1hr, 32mins

2016 has been a rough year for sequels, particularly long awaited sequels. If they aren't being ignored at the box office, they're getting ripped to shreds by critics. There may have been a few exceptions, but I'm guessing Bad Santa 2 will be more in line with the Zoolander 2's and Independence Day: Resurgence's of the year. It's currently sitting at a 27% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Directed by: Ron Clements, Don Hall, John Musker, Chris Williams
Runtime: 1hr, 53mins
Animation, Adventure, Comedy

There was a time when Pixar was the lone animation studio at the top of the totem pole. However, Disney Animation Studios (whose projects are often mistaken for Pixar films) has joined them in making good films with quality story telling that receive acclaim from both critics and general audiences and rake in big money at the box office. With Wreck-It Ralph, Frozen, Big Hero 6, and Zootopia they have now produced a string of successes we once thought possible only by Pixar. Moana, it would seem (97% on Rotten Tomatoes), is due to make it 5 in a row. Oh, and "Moana" is Hawaiian for ocean in case you were wondering.

Rules Don't Apply

Directed by: Warren Beatty
Runtime: 2hrs, 6mins
Comedy, Drama, Romance

I'll admit my only real interest in this film has to do with seeing more from Alden Ehrenreich before he takes on the upcoming Han Solo film.

Dear Zindagi
