Opening This Week - September 9

Wide Releases:

Sully

Directed by: Clint Eastwood
Runtime: 1hr, 35mins
Biography, Drama

While the early claim seems to be the film fails to hit higher heights than the crash sequence, the rest of the film is said to be carried by a very capable Tom Hanks. He might just be a national treasure. And between Captain Phillips, Saving Mr. Banks, Bridge of Spies, and now Sully, Hanks is proving to be the go to guy for biographical work. It's also worth mentioning that biographical films tend to get more notice during awards season. Not that I'm drawing conclusions or anything... But Hanks is always good enough to warrant the nominations. Also, add Clint Eastwood to the list of notable directors Hanks has worked with.

__________

The Disappointments Room

Directed by: D.J. Caruso
Runtime: 1hr, 32mins
Drama, Horror, Thriller

This looks like every other haunted house movie ever made...

__________

The Wild Life

Directed by: Vincent Kesteloot and Ben Stassen
Runtime: 1hr, 30mins
Animation, Adventure, Comedy

Add another uninspiring, animal lead, animated film to the list of lackluster summer movies. Also, now that school has started, this movie might be opening a little too late in the season to capture its intended audience. The extremely blasé trailers aren't helping much either. I'm willing to go out on a limb and forecast some disappointing numbers for this film.

__________

When the Bough Breaks

Directed by: Jon Cassar
Runtime: 1hr, 47mins
Drama, Horror, Mystery

Obsessed meets The Hand that Rocked the Cradle, and the movie goers looking for originality scratch another upcoming release off their watchlist...

__________

Limited Releases:

Brother Nature

Directed by: Osmany Rodriguez and Matt Villines
Runtime: 1hr, 37mins
Comedy

I tend to enjoy family comedies. And this one looks funny. If you can get on board with broad comedy.

__________

Come What May

Directed by: Christian Carion
Runtime: 1hr, 54mins
Drama, War

This one certainly looks like the best film to release this week, at least to me. It's a WW2 drama, and features a soundtrack by the brilliant Ennio Morricone. If only it were getting a wide release...

__________

Demon

Directed by: Marcin Wrona
Runtime: 1hr, 34mins
Horror, Thriller

Directed by: Justin Tipping
Runtime: 1hr, 20mins
