Opening This Week - April 1

Out in Wide Release:

God's Not Dead 2

After a poorly reviewed first "God's Not Dead" film, it seems peculiar to brand another film under this banner. The consensus from critics was that the first film was full of trite writing and one dimensional characters. If the trailer for this second film is any indication, that looks to have continued here.

Meet the Blacks

If there's one thing no one needs it's a parody of 2013's "The Purge." These "Scary Movie"-esque films haven't been well received in some time, and I can't imagine this one is likely to do well either. Why "The Purge" ended up being the inspiration for parody is anyone's guess.

Out in Limited Release:

Everybody Wants Some!!

As a fan of Richard Linklater's filmography, this is one of the few films of the pre-summer movie season I'm anxiously anticipating. It's an unexpected spiritual successor to Linklater's beloved early 90's comedy "Dazed and Confused." This time, however, rather than high school students in the 1970's it's college baseball players in the 1980's (a time period near and dear to all of our hearts right?). Sadly it's only out in limited release until April 8th.
