Opening This Week - February 12

Deadpool

Deadpool is perhaps the logical next step in Marvel's cinematic univers. Ant-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy were underdogs that had a sense of humor about themselves, and paved the way for Deadpool. But best yet, they've decided to take the family friendly limiter off the film and finally made an R rated hero flick. However, as fanboys geek out at the irreverent trailers the mixed critical response so far has me (someone who is less of a fanboy) keeping my expectations in check.

__________

Zoolander 2

Somewhere along the line you wonder if it's too long after the film's release to bother with a sequel. That wasn't the case for Dumb and Dumber, and now Zoolander. Both found an audience after their initial release and now both are trying to recapture the fun of their stupid humor in belated sequels. That didn't work at all for Dumb and Dumber, we'll see if Zoolander can do any better.

__________

How to Be Single

It may be Valentine's day weekend, but rather than a romance about finding love, we're getting a comedy about discovering the joy of being single. Though it doesn't quite look like the revelatory experience about learning not to rely on relationships that it seems to want to be.
